All I Studied in Classics Classes Came to Life That Day

I'll never forget
Winged Victory at the Louvre
Such beauty - I wept.

Wasn't it stunning? Looking at photos of it really doesn't do it justice...

Wow. I have a similar major Louvre memory. First trip to Paris was in my senior year at high school as a class trip. Was taking an ancient history course at the time. Chanced upon the very sculpture of which you speak in the museum stairwell - which struck me as odd - its placement seemed like an afterthought and that most people would just pass it by. At any rate, I immediately looked around, trying to find one - any - of my classmates, and exclaiming - "it's the winged thing!"

One classics degree later, at least I now can now exclaim "It's the winged victory of samothrace thing"!

I literally gasped when I saw her, then began to tear. Just trundling up the stairs, somewhat bleary eyed and on sensory overload from all I had already seen, I turned the corner at the landing, and there she was, on next the landing atop the 20 or so marble stairs left to ascend. It was the most impactful moment I had during that whole trip...amazing! You too., eh?! 8^) Cool...
